This might be the most fun I have had researching an emerging skin care treatment. In bouncing ideas off family members and friends, I got a lot of one liners and ribbing. After all, just saying “salmon sperm” out loud makes me laugh. The visual alone is hysterical. Saying “salmon sperm” on my face opened me up for even more ridicule. All levity aside, I unwittingly received this treatment when I volunteered to be a model for an international training session held in Houston.
Before I share my opinion, allow me to enlighten us all on what exactly PDRN is and does other than to contribute to the creation of baby salmon. PDRN is an acronym for “polydeoxyribonucleotide.” This long, Latin based word refers to long chain nucleotides found naturally in the body stimulating fibroblasts and encouraging collagen synthesis. PDRN supports and encourages tissue growth (collagen production). Early studies indicate that there is the potential for anti-inflammatory and natural skin healing properties. Think of reducing the pesky redness that shows up on your nose and checks. PDRN is ideal for the “glass skin” rage as it significantly improves skin hydration and collagen production. This helps to visibly improve skin texture making it smoother and firmer (my favorite perk) reducing pore size. Think of those acne marks you have battled since high school. PDRN offers similar results to Resylane but with instant gratification.
Back to my personal experience: picture me sitting in a treatment chair on stage in front of a large audience next to a cadaver head. The instructor of international acclaim, whom I otherwise could not afford, concluded his injectable enhancements with something totally unexpected. Microneedling with PDRN salmon sperm. Now I am too much the showman to leap out of the chair running as fast as I can for my age from the secret sauce of salmon sperm slathered on my face with the microneedling. Besides, who knows? It could be the fountain of youth, the Holy Grail of anti-aging that we eternally seek.
After my unexpected PDRN microneedling, peering into the mirror, I found myself delighted and thrilled with the results. I was tickled “salmon pink” with my results. My angular, tight looking face that has lost firmness and elasticity through the decades appeared full, hydrated and glowing! I had to take my size 9 foot out of my mouth. This procedure, which I would have burst out laughing over and mercilessly teased anyone who introduced me to the newest rage of salmon sperm facials for rejuvenation, worked miracles for me. I felt beautiful. I felt fresh faced and pretty. The gauntness was replaced with a bloom of glowing, hydrated youth and fullness. I wanted to know how soon I could do it again.
In summary, PDRN, in my opinion, is best when combined with microneedling. This procedure penetrates the dermis providing a result far greater than an over-the-counter face mask. This theory is supported by extensive clinical research.
Alas, in my research, I was unable to determine how salmon sperm is collected. Be it a highly technical laboratory procedure or a floozy female salmon sitting on a bar stool in her Louboutains giving a sexy ‘come hither” look to the poor, unsuspecting male salmon. All I can say is I hope they have a great night because after my treatment I certainly had a great night! I am two months post treatment and still enjoying the benefits of PDRN.
